2019 All Star Nomination and Selection Process

All Star General Information

All Star coaches will be announced on Wednesday, April 24th. All Star players and teams will be announced on the Capo Girls website by 6:00am on Monday, April 29th. Coaches submit interest forms for consideration, participate in an interview process with the Board of Directors and then are selected and approved by the Board of Directors. Once a coach is selected, he/she will have some ability to select a part of their team as described below.

At least two All Star teams will be formed for the 8u and 10u divisions and one team will be formed for the 12u division. The first team selected in each division will be the Gold team followed by the selection of a Silver team. A second Silver team may be selected in any division with the consent of the coaches and with Board approval.

2019 All Star Application & Commitment Form

All Star Eligibility
The league requires that a parent or legal guardian completes the 2019 All Star Application & Commitment Form for their player to be eligible for selection. This form must be emailed to Angela Ebner by Sunday, April 21st. Players must be registered with Capo Softball and have played in at least 75% of Capo Softball Spring games. Players who have participated with a travel-type team after March 31st are ineligible.

8u All Star Nomination Showcase
Our 8u division will host a Nomination Showcase starting at 9:30am on Sunday, April 28th. It is recommended, but not required, that interested players attend the Showcase. Any player that submits an All Star Application and Commitment Form is eligible for All Star consideration. Our 10u and 12u divisions will NOT be holding a Nomination Showcase. Instead, the head coaches for those divisions will nominate players for All Star consideration based on the player's performance throughout the entire season. Note that 10u and 12u head coaches will choose from ONLY those players who have submitted an All Star Application and Commitment Form.

At the 8u Showcase, players will demonstrate their skills in areas such as bunting, hitting, infield and outfield play. The All Star Nomination Showcase is not a Try-Out. The coaches will be voting for All Star players based on the player's performance on the field during the season, including the mid-season and end of season tournaments. The Showcase is solely to allow the coaches to see the nominees one last time before voting, to refresh their recollections of each player, and to ensure they have correctly placed the name with the face to assist their final decisions. It is not meant to be a pressure-filled event for the player as their performance at the Showcase will not have any bearing on their selection to an All Star team.

All Star Voting Process
On April 24th, the Board of Directors will vote on All Star coaches for each division. Per USA Softball rules, the All Star players and teams will not be announced until Monday, April 29th. The selection process for each division is outlined below:

  1. 8u Division: The 8u selection process will happen immediately after the Showcase is completed. Each head coach from the 8u division will select 24 players from the list of 8u players that submitted an All Star Application and Commitment Form and will assign points to them as follows: Top 4 players are assigned 6 points; the next 4 players are assigned 5 points; the next 4 are assigned 4 points; the next 4 are assigned 3 points; the next 4 are assigned 2 points; and the final 4 are assigned 1 point.

Players will be ranked based on the total number of points received by all coaches. The top 7 ranked players will be on the Gold team. The Gold coach will finalize the remaining spots on his/her roster by selecting from the pool of players that have submitted an All Star Interest and Commitment Form. Once the Gold team is set, the process will repeat for the Silver team. The top 7 remaining players are automatically on the Silver team and the Silver coach will select the remaining players for the team. If a third team is formed, this process will be repeated for that team.

  2. 10u Division: The 10u selection process will happen on Sunday evening, April 28th. Each head coach from the 10u division will select 36 players from the list of 10u players that submitted an All Star Application and Commitment Form and will assign points to them as follows: Top 6 players are assigned 6 points; the next 6 players are assigned 5 points; the next 6 are assigned 4 points; the next 6 are assigned 3 points; the next 6 are assigned 2 points; and the final 6 are assigned 1 point. 10u players will be assigned these points by coaches based on their performance throughout the entire season, including their performance at the mid-season and end of season tournaments.

  3. 12u Division: The 12u selection process will happen on Sunday evening, April 28th. Each head coach from the 12u division will select 12 players from the list of 12u players that submitted an All Star Application and Commitment Form and will assign points to them as follows: Top 2 players are assigned 6 points; the next 2 players are assigned 5 points; the next 2 are assigned 4 points; the next 2 are assigned 3 points; the next 2 are assigned 2 points; and the final 2 are assigned 1 point. 12u players will be assigned these points by coaches based on their performance throughout the entire season, including their performance at the mid-season and end of season tournaments.

Players will be ranked based on the total number of points received by all coaches.

The top 7 ranked players will be on the 12u Gold team. The Gold coach will finalize the remaining spots on his/her roster by selecting from the pool of players that have submitted an All Star Interest and Commitment Form.
